About Community Garden
Growing faith, food, and community — one harvest at a time
The Messiah Lutheran Community Garden, now under the care of Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM), is a dream realized for Food Pantry Director Henry Lombraña. For years, he envisioned a space where the community could cultivate both nourishment and hope. That dream took root when Messiah Lutheran Church gifted CAM its thriving garden, complete with raised beds, compost bins, irrigation, and a greenhouse.
Today, volunteers gather each week to plant, harvest, and share fresh produce with CAM’s Food Pantry clients. The garden’s first harvest — cucumbers, beans, and peppers — symbolizes more than food on a table; it’s a living example of faith in action and neighbors helping neighbors.
Beyond its practical impact, the garden is also a training ground for empowerment. CAM plans to offer classes in collaboration with Urban Harvest, local Master Gardeners, and other community partners to teach sustainable growing and nutrition skills. The garden’s mission is to feed families, educate future growers, and strengthen community ties through shared service.
